Success Story: Animals in need

This past month has seen numerous animals in need of rescue. We had a pitbull puppy come in backed over by a truck, two chihuahuas badly neglected in an abandonment situation that involved drugs abuse, a boy alpaca that was going to lose his home, four more dogs from the hoarder in Seligman and a cat from Jerome that got his tail caught in something and his hind end was infected with a resistant bacteria. It has been a busy month!!!

The alpaca after I neutered him, he wanted to come back into the hospital!

The crazy thing is that all the above listed animals were treated and doing well which makes me happy. The pitbull puppy already got adopted through Savahna’s rescue, the chihuahuas are in a medical foster so they get all their medications and are in a safe environment. We went and got the boy alpaca with help from Savanah’s parents. We neutered him and he is already with our herd after a weeklong separation. He is doing very well.

The Seligman dogs came with 4 different parasites and an 8-week-old puppy with a terrible heart murmur. Cris took her down to Dr. Church the cardiologist and he said she has a hole in her heart between the ventricles and an outflow obstruction in the pulmonary valve. The two heart defects are balancing each other, and we are going to keep her as healthy as possible. The day after her cardiology appointment she tested positive for parvo virus and started having diarrhea and vomiting. The incubation for parvo is a week, so she came with the virus. My heart sank as she already has two heart defects and how is she going to survive parvo virus? She was sick for 48 hours and I gave her everything I could think of to support her. She then started howling and barking as she wanted back with her mother. She is testing negative for parvo now and bouncing around like nothing happened.

Here’s three of the dogs from Sigman. The little one is the puppy with the hole in her heart.

Cris disinfected everything and tested the other 3 dogs, who are doing fine. We neutered the two boys yesterday, and one of them had a testicle in the abdomen. That surgery went fine too. The boy cat with the infected tail was here for 10 days and is now the clinic cat for Jerome Humane Society. He was feral but became so friendly that he will be a great ambassador for them. I am thankful that no matter how bad things seemed at first, we all worked together and all is well so far.

Here is the pitbull mix puppy that got run over by the truck.
